Short description of the project: The project builds a system of mapping and monitoring the socio-economic and fundamental rights situation of the Roma communities in Romania in their local environment will be developed and implemented. One of the major objectives of this project is to identify, make an inventory of and briefly describe certain relatively segregated Roma communities, characterized by relative deprivation at the level of local administrations from Romania. Systematic data collection, structured on the basis of a well-defined set of indicators, clear qualitative criteria, precise methodologies and the continuity of the data collection process are crucial.

The aim is to map 3,181 rural and urban administrative-territorial units and elaborate sociological descriptions for 50 urban localities with more than 30,000 inhabitants and 25 community studies. At the end of the project it will deliver:

  • Reliable data, a more clear picture of the needs and priorities identified for an efficient and balanced development of local communities

  • Interactive maps regarding the socio-demographic and economic profile of Roma communities

  • Indicators showing policy progress and outcomes from local to national level

  • An online platform for promoting the results of the crowdsourcing component in order to consolidate local and national networks

  • A useful tool for shaping public policies and for other actors interested in poverty alleviation and the local development of marginal communities
